Ottawa is where our portfolio was built
Jonathan Robert Landscapes is based in Ottawa. Osmond Daly Estate, Chesswood Retreat, Astrolabe Ravine, Mickelberry Hangout and Rivercrest Escape, the five projects in our portfolio, are all Ottawa properties.
They are very different lots: an estate, a ravine property, a wooded retreat, a compact modern backyard and a backyard with a sunken fire lounge. Each project page shows how the landscape work fits its site and which parts our crews built.
Ottawa lots vary that much. Some are older properties with mature trees and tight side yards, some are newer lots with open space and little shade, and some sit on a steep grade. The design starts from the lot you have.

What Ottawa winters ask of a landscape
Ottawa winters are long, and the ground freezes and thaws through the fall and the spring. That movement lifts patios, walkways and walls that sit on a thin base, so the plan sets the base depth and compaction for each one.
Water matters as much as the base. The plan sends meltwater away from the house and out from under the stone, where it would otherwise freeze.

Planting for Ottawa gardens
Our horticulturists choose hardy plants for the Ottawa climate and for the light on your lot: full sun on an open new lot, or shade under the mature trees of an older one.
Beds are drawn into the plan with the stone, so they sit where snow will not be piled and where water drains away from the house.
Timing an Ottawa project
Building in Ottawa follows the season. Excavation waits for the ground to thaw, and new planting needs time to root before winter.
Much of the design work happens at a desk, so it does not have to wait for spring. Starting the design early means the drawings and estimate can be ready sooner.

Before you start
Do you work everywhere in Ottawa?
We design and build across Ottawa and in the communities around it. Send the property address and a short project description, and we will confirm we can take it on.
Which Ottawa projects can I look at?

How do you keep Ottawa freeze-thaw from lifting a patio?
It starts below the surface. The plan sets the base depth, compaction and drainage for each patio, walkway and wall, so water drains away instead of freezing under the stone.
Do you offer garden maintenance in Ottawa?
Yes, for homes. Residential clients book biweekly, monthly or seasonal visits, including fall cleanup and leaf raking. We do not offer lawn care or lawn mowing, and we do not take commercial maintenance.
Do you build pools in Ottawa?
Edgewater Pools, our pool division, designs and installs custom inground pools in Ottawa. We build the landscape around them, and both are drawn in one plan.
